Home Working our Guide.
Whether you work from home by choice or at your employer's request due to a work at home policy, initially, this can be distracting or concerning. We have created this guide to try and assist you from set-up to tips on being organised and looking after your wellbeing and mental health.
What are the benefits of working at home?
Whilst there are some challenges to working from home, there are a lot of benefits. Research has shown that most people save money by working from home, (reduced costs on fuel, snacks and time!)
Productivity can increase, along with less travelling and more time with family and friends. Ensuring you get the balance between working and relaxing is important.
How Can I set up my Home Work Space?
You don't need a dedicated room or office to work from home, what you do need is a space that is designated for work, one that allows you to function and encourages you to do your job well. Think about your workspace in an office and you don't usually work in a cramped area on a hard chair.
1. Identify what you need and make a list of the items, is it a small space or do you need lots of room to spread out work?
2. Do you need a desk and chair,
3. Do you use multiple screens or a laptop or tablet?
4. Ensure you think about having your screen at the right height.
5. Do you need storage for papers/documents, lots of filing cabinets have multiple storage drawers and are available as stand-alone filing, under desk pedestals or desktop storage.
6. Make sure our work area suits you, and that you can differentiate between your home "work" and home life.
7.Sit stand or height adjustable desks allow for a healthy work balance as you can stand and work which helps you focus.
8. Don't forget accessories such as monitor arms and cabling as we all have multiple devices that need charging.
9. Invest in a good quality adjustable chair, you spend hours each day working so make sure you look after your health.
